LEXINGTON, Ky. — The National Association of Letter Carriers held its annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive Saturday, which is the largest one-day food drive in the U.S.
At a post office in Lexington last year, 26,000 pounds of food were collected for God’s Pantry Food Bank.
Residents leave food next to their mailboxes for letter carriers to collect when delivering mail the day of the food drive. Everything’s then taken to post offices, where volunteers help with sorting the food.
“We get a ton of food, and it helps thousands of families in Kentucky fight food insecurity," said Hanna Martin, volunteer and food drive coordinator for God's Pantry Food Bank. "It supports our pantries here."
Some other places that received donations in Lexington were the Catholic Action Center and Lighthouse Ministries.
