In that spirit, three Kentucky artists are showing off a new exhibition at the Louisville Thoroughbred Society.

“Kentucky all the way,” said Jaime Corum, an equine artist who has a studio in the mountains of eastern Kentucky.

On Wednesday, April 24, Corum brought her talents for a live painting demonstration.

“My kind of heart prediction is Honor Marie, because I’m friends with the Beckmans, and I love that whole family. But of course, Sierra Leone is probably the favorite, and he sure is beautiful. So I like Sierra Leone,” Corum said.

She and her fellow artists who are called the Triple Crown Trio can’t believe it’s Derby season already.

“It’s snuck up on me, as it always does. But you can feel it coming when all the dogwoods and azaleas come out. All the flowers are blooming. You can just feel the Derby coming. And this one’s the 150. So that’s so exciting. I think everybody’s really excited this year,” Corum said.

Celebrating in grand Derby fashion, the artists unveiled a three-part artist exhibition called the Brushes and Bronze Art Show.

“We formed through Secretariat bonds. So we are, you know, we do all have Secretariat pieces in the show. But we wanted to just celebrate, horse racing and the Derby primarily this year,” Corum said.

The last segment of their Brushes and Bronze event is May 1 at the Louisville Thoroughbred Society. It will honor jockeys past and present to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.
