For those wanting a shorter airport security experience, now is the time to apply. TSA PreCheck members do not need to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts or light jackets at more than 200 airports across the U.S. The Louisville event will take place 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily through Dec. 22.

Interested participants need to fill out an online application to participate. They will then select "Louisville, Kentucky - pop up" as the appointment or walk-in location. Once approved, they'll need to bring identification to the airport, such as their passport or their photo ID and birth certificate. They should expect a short interview, finger-printing and a photo.

"TSA PreCheck, as somebody that has had it since it started, is a lifesaver," said Megan Atkins Thoben, Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport vice president of operations and customer engagement. "It always guarantees you that expedited screening experience. There are special lines that you go in at the TSA checkpoint for PreCheck passengers only."

TSA PreCheck is for domestic flights and international flights departing from the U.S. The airline determines if the option is available for your flight. The enrollment fee is $78, and it is good for five years.

SDF expects it will be able to accommodate all individuals applying for PreCheck. The airport still recommends filling out the online portion of the application before coming in.

Approved applicants will receive their known traveler number in three to five days. That number should be added to all flight reservations to enjoy TSA PreCheck benefits.
