With Christmas around the corner, volunteers hope that people will consider adopting an animal rather than purchasing one.

There are nearly a quarter of a million more dogs and cats waiting in the shelter system this holiday season compared to last year, according to Shelter Animals Count.

Mara Delaus with “Saved by Fate Dog Rescue” was appreciative of the adoption event to give a dog under her rescue’s care, Bandit, more exposure.

She says that dogs and cats are a lifetime commitment and that help is out there for struggling pet owners. Organizations have ways to help with training needs and medical expenses.

“There are resources out there,” said Delaus. “Reach out to shelters, reach out to rescue organizations if you’re having trouble with the dog that you adopted for Christmas, or any dog, before you just surrender that pet.”

Volunteers across the different rescues seemed to echo the same need that they are always looking for fosters to take in an animal temporarilly until it gets adopted.

The other rescue organizations that attended the adoption event were “Fairy Tails Pet Adoption”, “Black Cat Animal Rescue”, “Bluegrass Bully Rescue”, and “Scott County Animal Care & Control”. All rescues have information on their websites on the animals that are available and/or how to volunteer.
