LEXINGTON, Ky. — More than 600 University of Kentucky students came together for 24 straight hours this past weekend of no sitting and no sleeping for DanceBlue Marathon 2025.
Participants raised at least $436 throughout the school year to qualify for this event. Family members and friends can donate, but some students found creative ways to meet the quota.
“My friend and I actually posted something on our social medias where we said we would run [one-tenth] of a mile for every dollar that we raise," said Sarah Dutton, UK senior. "We actually ended up raising $200. We had to run 20 miles, so my friend and I ran 20 miles on a random Saturday for DanceBlue."
It was the 20th anniversary of the annual fundraiser. Over the years, the student-led organization has raised millions for its hematology and oncology clinic at Kentucky Children’s Hospital.
“Since its founding, DanceBlue has raised over $20 million going toward pediatric cancer research, as well as helping families be comfortable in their journey to Lexington to receive care,” said Sammy Tate, DanceBlue2025 public relations coordinator.
The students said they were excited about being able to take part in this cause.
“Any time you can be a part of something bigger than yourself is always a great feeling, and obviously this is helping so many children at the hematology clinic," Dutton said. "It's really great to get to participate in something that's so big like this."
According to a release, DanceBlue 2025 raised $2.3 million, making it a record-breaking year.
