Lucie Moses traveled from California to see the Run for the Roses this year.

“I went to one horse race once, and this really blew it out of the water. It was completely fantastic,” said Moses.

She was one of over 150,000 guests to see Mage cross the finish line on Saturday.

Now, she is taking part in “Departure Sunday” at the Louisville airport.

“Always the busiest day of the year for SDF. This year is especially important because we anticipate the single day record for the busiest day at the airport,” said Natalie Chaudoin, director of public relations at Louisville Regional Airport Authority.

The Muhammad Ali International Airport said they expect 18,000 people to depart from the airport on Sunday.

The long lines waiting for security wrapped all around the building. It gave Derby goers a chance to reminisce on their Kentucky Derby Experience.

“We will definitely always remember it. It was very memorable. I love everybody wearing hats. I wasn’t expecting it to be universal. But everybody had a cool outfit, everybody had a cool hat,” said Moses.

“We have friends who are from here and invited us out about 12 years ago was our first Derby. It’s just a good time. Fun to be here,” said Wendy Hogue from North Carolina. She attended two race days this weekend.

Moses is originally from France. She placed one bet all day.

“Looked at the schedule. There was one French horse the entire day. So I had to bet on the French horse, Speak of the Devil and Speak of the Devil showed,” she said. Moses didn’t leave Louisville empty handed.

“I won just enough to buy myself some souvenir mint julep cups, so that was really fun,” she said.

The Kentucky Derby is an unforgettable experience. Next year’s big event is scheduled for May 4, 2024.
