LOUISVILLE, Ky. — GE Appliances launches a new $80 million dishwasher manufacturing line at Appliance Park.

The new dishwasher line along with other production increases across the company will add more than 280 jobs at Appliance Park. The is the second dishwasher investment in 2020 for the company; the first was a $19 million facility expansion in June. 

“At GE Appliances, we’re on a mission to become the leading appliance company in the United States, and our $80 million investment to add a new dishwasher line at Appliance Park is our latest leap forward on that journey,” said Cinthy Fanning, vice president for dishwasher products for GE Appliances. “At a time when our research has shown families are using their dishwashers more than ever, we’re excited to expand our product offerings—and our U.S. manufacturing capabilities to give consumers access to more of the appliances they want and need.”

There are a lot of improvements coming with the multi-million dollar project. Robotics and other advances in equipment will eliminate difficult jobs, ergonomics will be enhanced, and so will the manufacturing environment. GE, a Haier company, says engineering and manufacturing teams worked together on the assembly line to come up with ideas to make the manufacturing process easier. The new dishwashers will an updated appearance, electronic controls, and flush installation which, according to GE, is appealing to builders and property managers.

GE employs more than 7,100 people in Louisville at the company's headquarters and manufacturing plant. In a release, GE says it generates $11 billion for the state annually.
