LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) families can now fill out an online form saying how they want their student(s) to continue learning once school buildings reopen.

What You Need To Know

  • JCPS asks for families' input on return to school options

  • Form meant to help district prepare for potential reopening of schools

  • Options include in-person, virtual learning

JCPS announced the form, meant to help the district prepare for a potential reopening in late October, Thursday.

“Our schools will only be reopened when it is safe to do so and when the number of COVID-19 cases in our community are on a downward trend,” said Superintendent Marty Pollio. “No decision has been made about when our buildings will reopen, but we have to make sure all of the necessary resources are in place to support all learning options available to families.”

The form provides two options once the Jefferson County Board of Education approves a date to return to schools:

  • In-person learning where students would attend school and receive face-to-face instruction; and
  • Virtual learning where students would continue remote learning online but remain enrolled at their current school.

While there isn't an official date for JCPS schools to reopen, the form includes preliminary information about what each option includes. Families also have the option to change their selection at a later time.

Tuesday night, the Jefferson County Board of Education approved Superintendent Marty Pollio's recommendation to extend NTI for all students through late October. Pollio made his recommendation last week, where he also outlined a plan for a staggered return to in-person classes should COVID-19 numbers improve.

JCPS encourages families to fill out the selection form as soon as possible.
