LEXINGTON, Ky. — Snow is heading to the Commonwealth and people in Lexington are doing their best to be prepared by buying sleds, salt and shovels.

Chevy Chase Hardware went the extra mile this time around, purchasing 1,200 sleds from a Pennsylvania ACE Hardware for people in Lexington to purchase.

It goes without saying: When snow is on the way, people are looking for sleds, salt and shovels.

Andrew Mowery is a Chevy Chase Hardware employee who’s been working at the store for a month. When snow and severe weather are on the way and sleds are in high demand, Mowery is waking up earlier for more demanding shifts.

“If you’re holding onto a string, you know you got something you feel like you can hold yourself onto. Personally whenever I went sledding I used strings. I’ve always been taught it's a better idea,” said Mowery.

Strings make sledding safer and easier to pull up the hill. Mowery has the task of cutting, burning and tying each string to the sled and making children coming into the hardware store excited.

The only reason why Chevy Chase Hardware has sleds is because the family drove 10 hours to Pennsylvania to get them, they bought 1,200 of them.

Lisa, her husband John Justice own the store and run it with their daughters. They are dedicated to making the right moves when it comes to snow and severe weather.

“Our inventory on salt has been pretty good this year. Shovels, we’ve had them in and out several times. Right now we’re currently out of shovels and we’re hoping to get some more this afternoon. Sleds, same situation, but they’ve been on backorder for so long we’ve decided to drive and get them,” said Lisa Justice.

The Justice family knows just the right steps to keep customers happy.

“You got to be fast. You never want to be the slowest and you never want to be the last. Take this end and this end and slide it through,” said Mowery as he tied a string for a customer.

Of their 1,200 sleds, the hardware store said half were already sold as of Saturday. Justice said serving the Lexington community in this way is priority number #1.

“John and I—that’s how we roll. So we like to help the customer out and have what they need,” said Justice.

Chevy Chase Hardware is closed on Sundays, and they’re urging people to get what they need before snow arrives.
