LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Derby Festival's Hole-in-One Golf Contest is returning this year, giving Kentuckians a chance to take a swing at $1 million. The contest opens on Thursday, April 15, and runs through Sunday, April 25 at the Seneca Golf Course Driving Range – off of Pee Wee Reese Road in Louisville.

There will be 11 days of preliminary qualifying rounds and a Semi-final Round on Sunday, April 25, organizers said in a press release.

A handful of safety measures will be enforced with COVID-19 mitigation in mind: Golfers are asked to bring their own clubs to participate, on-site registration will be electronic, buckets of balls can be reserved at the event or ahead of time via the event web page on KDF.org, tees will be spaced further apart to allow for social distancing, as well as other necessary COVID-19 protocols as recommended by federal, state and local health officials to ensure the safety of participants, volunteers and organizers.

The preliminary competition is open 10 AM to 8:30 PM every day from April 15 – April 25.  The last day for preliminary competition is Sunday, April 25, from 10 AM to 5 PM, and then the Semi-Final round begins at 6 PM. 

It’s just $1 per shot daily, with 2 shots for $1 specials on the following days:

  • Weekdays - Senior Special (62 and up), 10 AM – 2 PM
  • April 18 - Junior Day (under 18)
  • April 19 - First Responders & Veterans Day
  • April 20 - Ladies Day
  • April 22 - Stock Yards Bank Appreciation Day

During the preliminary rounds, the 10 closest shots to the hole each day will advance to the Semi-final round, while hole-in-one shots will advance directly to the Finals. There are a total of 56 positions in the Finals, which include all daily hole-in-one qualifiers, four female qualifiers from Ladies Day, plus two qualifiers under the age of 18 from Junior Day advance as well. 

The Finals will be held on Tuesday, April 27, at 6 PM at Seneca Golf Course Hole #8. If no hole in one is awarded during the Grand Prize round, the participant coming closest to the hole during the Finals will receive a $5,000 first prize.

Golfers can also try their hand at the Long Drive Contest with 2 shots for $5 from 4-7 PM on these days:

  • April 18 - Junior Long Drive Contest (under 18)
  • April 20 - Ladies Long Drive Contest
  • April 21 - Men’s Long Drive Contest
