LEXINGTON, Ky. - The date August 27th marks thirteen years since the ComAir Flight 5191 crash at Bluegrass Airport in Lexington.

It took the lives of 49 passengers aboard the plane.

There was only one survivor and that was the pilot, James Polehinke.

The flight was leaving from Lexington for Atlanta when the pilot took off from the wrong runway, which was too short for the plane.

It crashed into a field on takeoff.

Now on this 13th year since the tragedy, a memorial at the University of Kentucky Arboretum is the designated place for people to come and reflect on the lives lost back in 2006. There are a total of 49 'silver birds sweeping into the sky' displayed on the sculpture, each bird representing one of the lives lost in the August 2006 crash.

The last big memorial was on the 10th anniversary in 2016 but there are no events planned for this year or any others going forward.

Families have decided to go with their own personal, private remembrances.
