COVINGTON, Ky. — Saturday morning was an early start for business owner Tim Eversole.

What You Need To Know

  • A winter storm came through Kentucky Thursday night into Friday

  • Many local businesses closed because of the severe weather

  • Those with Bean Haus in Covington say holiday weekends can typically be big for business

  • They say they opened Saturday to make sure people had some coffee and baked goods and conversation

“I normally get here 3:30 or 4 o’clock in the morning to get our stuff ready to go. This morning I got here about 1:30 just to get the place warmed up and get everything ready,” Eversole said.

He’s the owner of Bean Haus Bakery and Cafe, a local Covington staple with a couple of locations. He wanted to make sure people had a solid start to their day the morning of Christmas Eve and prepped outside and inside to be as safe as possible.

Eversole said holiday weekends can be big for local businesses, and this year’s last push before Christmas was cut a little short due to a winter storm that wiped through Kentucky Thursday night into Friday.

He said the business saw cancellations on orders and fewer customers than usual.

“We’re going to do about an eighth of what we would normally do on a normal Saturday-Sunday holiday weekend,” he said.

For Eversole, trying to remain open despite the weather is because of the people they serve daily.

“I think as a local business, as a community business, our customers rely on us to be here. You know a cup of Joe in the morning is important to them. The interactions are important, the socialization,’ Eversole said.

He said he’s glad some people can get out and safely make it in to get a cup of Joe and chit chat with community members as Christmas approaches.
