LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Some are hoping for a white Christmas, but Jack Mathis is not one of those people. “Please don't happen, please don't happen, please don’t happen," said Mathis, a co-owner of Work The Metal. “It's like wait till after Christmas, and then it can snow.”
Work The Metal is a boutique offering women’s apparel, jewelry, houseware and more. The store is usually busy with last-minute shoppers on Christmas eve.
The severe cold front headed this way could change that this year. “A lot of people have been in earlier this week shopping preparing for if they can’t get out closer to Christmas,” said Mathis.
Work The Metal is planning to be open this weekend. Mathis says the store will close if the storm creates dangerous travel conditions. “It’s important that we stay open. However, it’s more important that our employees and customers are safe,” said Mathis. “We care about them so much.”
Sisters Abby Abel and Mackenzie Nash decided Thursday would be the last day they go out to shop.
“We got up at about 7:30 this morning. We’ve already hit a couple of stores. I think this is going to be our last stop, but wanted to get him a couple of things before we hunker down for the weekend,” said Abel.
“I actually traveled from up north, so I came down today early because I’m actually from where most of the snow is going to be up in Michigan,” explained Nash.
Mathis wants shoppers to know that if they cannot get out and shop, there are other ways to gift.
“If you see something, email them a picture and say I got your gift and it’ll be here next week when there’s no snow and just be understanding of restraints that people may have,” said Mathis.
Because the time for giving never expires.
