BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Diversity and unity are at the forefront for the Bowling Green Elite Youth Football Club started by the Bosnian American Association.

What You Need To Know

  • The Bowling Green Elite Youth Football Club started in 2019

  • Players come from multiple counties throughout South Central Kentucky

  • The club has players from ages 7 to 18

Coaching Director Evan Sutherland has been crucial in the growth of the club and said players are flocking to the club from all over.

“The desire at that time was to have community involvement and a melting pot of players," said Sutherland. "We have Hispanic players, we have African players, we have American players, we have Bosnian players. We have kids from all over. If we had a flag for each country that was represented, it would probably be around 30 to 40 different countries.”

Sutherland says right now, about 70% of the players are from Bowling Green but kids are still coming from other places.

“We have kids from Owensboro, we have kids from Hopkinsville and we have kids from Madisonville," said Sutherland. "So we are pulling kids from a major radius. So now they come in and it helps as well.”

Parents like Scott Danner and his son Landon, who are from Owensboro, made the recent switch to Bowling Green Elite from another club, and the results have been promising.

“With Landon being able to be around kids that speak a different language and have different cultures at such a young age can only benefit him in high school, college and adulthood going forward,” said Danner. "The fact that parents can balance between different languages through the Bosnian language and then go to English to be included in the conversation makes you feel really welcomed here."

Sutherland says he hopes one day the club can grow big enough to work with professional clubs as well.

"Kids want to be apart of something special and word of mouth travels," said Sutherland. "Our hope is to one day work directly with professional clubs and have our kids maybe even sign contracts with them when they are ready."

Tryouts for the team will be held June 7 to 10, and kids ages 7 to 18 are welcome to try out for the team.
