LOUISVILLE, Ky. — St. Vincent de Paul has never done anything like this before.
The Louisville-based organization has a wide range of services and programs helping Kentuckians in drug and alcohol recovery find permanent housing and job opportunities. They're now thinking outside the box in their latest fundraising effort after receiving a unique donation brought to them on four wheels.
St. Vincent de Paul is raffling off a 1953 MG TD Roadster, valued at $30,000. The four-speed, manual transmission and all-around cool car is sitting idle at the Dorsey Plaza store.
Store employee Alice Wilberding is fielding all sorts of questions from curious shoppers.
“I love anything that is historical because I figure there’s a story always behind something like this,” Wilberding said.
A raffle ticket cost $100, and only 1,000 are being sold. The money raised will go to St. Vincent de Paul programs supporting thousands of vulnerable Kentuckians every year.
“We also have our food pantry that operates two days a week that serves people in the community with free groceries, which is incredible in these times for a lot of families and then we also have permanent and supportive housing and transitional housing and some shelters on our campus as well,” said Makenzie Greenwell, St. Vincent de Paul senior development and events coordinator.
The MG TD Roadster runs and is ready to hit the road.
“This is the first time I’m seeing it in person, and it is just as incredible as the listing and the photos that we have of it,” Greenwell added.
