BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Megan's Mobile Grocery Store is making waves in the community by visiting neighborhoods in need of food and other items in Warren County.

Lori Richey has been the woman behind the wheel and she says it is a great opportunity to serve
"I think in about 2019 was when we were able to get the mobile bus— get it all renovated and set up to do the mobile grocery," said Richey. "It has been a fantastic opportunity to go out and serve the community."
The mobile bus visits 27 different neighborhoods weekly. Transportation can also be an issue, according to Richey. Kentuckians like Donna Simpson frequently take advantage of the service.
"I have a car, but this way I don't have to worry about going to the store, finding a parking place and being with a bunch of people that have not gotten the vaccine and refuse to wear masks," said Simpson. "So it’s for my own safety that I’m glad that its here.”
According to data from Feeding America, 17,020 residents in Warren County are considered food insecure. That number accounts for 13.5% of the county’s population.
Recipients provide a list to the mobile service and the groceries are picked up daily. Richey says there is also a picture menu for those who may use English as a second language.
"For the people who don't speak English very well, we have a picture menu where they can go through and write on the picture menu," said Richey. "For instance, if they wanted a frozen pizza, they can mark that on the list so it just makes it easier for them."
