AUBURN, Ky. — A heavy amount of rainfall slammed the western portion of the state, including Auburn in Logan County.

According to Mayor Mike Hughes, there were four inches of rainfall in three hours Monday night. That number caused multiple spots to be flooded in the city.
"Most of the flooding occurs near the city creek," said Hughes. "The streets adjacent to that flood quite often."
Proper drainage throughout the city has been tough, so Hughes says they are hoping to get a FEMA grant to help.
“What we have done in the last couple of years is apply for a FEMA grant to alleviate some of these drainage issues," said Hughes. "We hope to be a successful applicant for that funding so we can help get the water out of town a little quicker in those flood prone areas.”
Local businesses also had to close because of massive flooding.
“Our main problem here in town is down the street that had a lot of water," said Gayle Gregory, owner of Auburn Restaurant. "That affected the restaurants down the street and they are good people, and I hated that it had to close.”
According to Hughes, the flooding will take a few days to subside, but city crews are working as fast as they can to make sure people are safe and that the closed roads open again.
