GLENDALE, Calif. — Everything is made to order in a 290-square-foot shop run by three people: the mother, father, and son trio behind Mini Kabob.

“This place optimizes the mom and pop shop in Los Angeles,” said Armen Martirosyan.

Martirosyan has been involved with the restaurant since he was a child. His parents bought it 25 years ago after moving to the states from Armenia.

He said his mom was always baking and his dad is an amazing chef, so it was the perfect fit.

MORE RUNNING ON EMPTY:

Martirosyan said he remembers being 6 years old and smelling his mom's great baking. After he grew older, he went to school and worked in other restaurants but always knew he needed to return to Mini Kabob to help his parents.

“I come back every day because this is home,” Martirosyan said.

The restaurant is not only home because it’s where the heart is, but it’s also where they spend almost all of their time. It is a constant production in the kitchen. Everything is made fresh daily and to order. The family works nonstop for the best quality food.

“It’s important because if we didn’t, we would just be like every other restaurant,” said Martirosyan.

This is what makes them stand out, and the fact that he says all his parents know is work.

“Mom and Dad are here every day, seven days a week, getting close to age 70, here for 12 to 13-hour days,” said Martirosyan.

He wants to help them succeed, so they can take more time off to relax and enjoy life.

“I want them to be happy at the end of the day. I want them to be taken care of as we were taken care of when we were children,” said Martirosyan.

He takes care of his parents, as his parents take care of every single customer who walks through the door for some Armenian home-cooking at Mini Kabob.
