A clipper system will continue to slide through Wisconsin Thursday night. Additional snowfall accumulation is likely in most places along with lake enhanced and lake effect snow in areas closer to Lake Michigan.

What to know

  • Widespread snow tapers to snow showers late Thursday night

  • Slippery, snow-covered roads are possible into Friday morning
  • Few lingering snow showers early Friday in eastern Wisconsin

Light to moderate snow will continue through Thursday night with additional lake effect snow showers possible in eastern Wisconsin near Lake Michigan through Friday morning.

Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings will be in effect through Friday morning for accumulating snow impacting travel. All counties with the exception of those closest to the Wisconsin/Illinois border are under some type of winter weather alert.

The highest snowfall totals will likely be measured in northeastern Wisconsin where moisture will be pulled off of Lake Michigan, enhancing snowfall totals there. Additional lake-effect snow showers are possible as the system pulls out of the state on Friday in areas near Lake Michigan. Much of the state will pick up 3"-6" of snow by noon Friday.

Expect roads to be slippery and snow-covered throughout Thursday into early Friday. Low visibility is possible at times with pockets of heavier snow that will likely move in during the afternoon and evening hours. Slow travel and delays will be likely across the state. If you need to hit the roads, leave yourself plenty of time and plan for slower than usual travel.
