After a quiet end to the workweek, a wintry mix, strong storms and seasonably warm temperatures are in store for the weekend.
A Winter Storm Watch is in place for far northwestern Wisconsin through 6 a.m. Sunday and a Winter Weather Advisory issued for several counties in northern Wisconsin goes through noon Saturday.
We also have Ice Storm Warnings in effect for northern Wisconsin, some of which will last through Saturday morning and some that are extended into Sunday.
Due to the potential for a wintry mix moving through late Friday night into early Saturday, icy spots may form.
Early Saturday morning is when we will probably see the most travel concerns. If you can avoid driving through northern Wisconsin late Friday night into Saturday morning, it'd be best to do so because of the potential for minor ice accumulation.
As we head into Saturday, temperatures get much warmer for most of the state. In fact, southern Wisconsin could see highs returning to the 60s! This will change any wintry mix from Saturday morning over to rain.
Wintry mix will transition to rain in northern Wisconsin mid-morning Saturday.
Late morning into mid-afternoon, we could see light rain and mainly a cloudy sky.
By late afternoon, some storms may start to move into southwestern Wisconsin. The best chance to see thunderstorms will be Saturday evening into Saturday night.
Rain clears out early Sunday morning, but snow showers may still pass through northern Wisconsin through noon.
It's crazy to think that in early March we are talking about the potential for severe weather.
Southwestern Wisconsin looks to have the best chance for strong storms, being placed under a "slight risk" for severe weather (2 out of 5 or "possible" on our severe weather scale). The main threats with these storms will be strong winds and hail.
