MILWAUKEE — We were literally lined up to go on the field to capture the Brewers' celebration. They were up 2-0 with one out in the top of the ninth when it happened.

Pete Alonso, who hadn't hit a home run in a few weeks, connected for a three-run blast off Devin Williams. Just like that, the Mets took a 3-2 lead.

They added another run and won 4-2.

In a nasty blink, the Brewers' season is over.

After being so close to ending the postseason series victory drought that stretched back to 2018, the cruel torture continues.

I was in Washington when the Nationals rallied to beat the Brewers in a Wild Card playoff game.

This felt worse. It was at home in front of loyal Brewers fans. They sold out American Family Field, hoping for a party.

At the last second, it turned into another agonizing loss.
