GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love reportedly suffered a sprained MCL and will miss two to six weeks.
His recovery is paramount. Still, the Packers have to get ready for the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field next Sunday.
Reports indicate that Malik Willis will be the starter on Sunday. Sean Clifford can be elevated from the practice squad to be his backup.
Willis is a former third round pick by the Tennessee Titans out of Liberty. There are conflicting reports about whether the Packers have reached out to an available veteran like Ryan Tannehill. I don’t see how he could learn the playbook and be ready for the Colts anyway. Plus, if Love can return quickly, you want him in there.
There’s reason to think Willis can keep the car from going in the ditch. Rely on Josh Jacobs and a talented receiver corps. Don’t try to do too much. There’s also reason to wonder why Tennessee thought he was a third stringer at best and dumped him for a seventh round pick.
To me, this is not all about the Packers offense.
The defense will also need to do its part. You can’t expect to score 30 points a game with a backup quarterback.
This is not a road the Packers and their fans wanted to go down. But here we are. How the Packers navigate this time they’re without Love will determine how they do this season.
