MILWAUKEE — Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz is scheduled to take the stage in Chicago on Wednesday night to give his primetime address at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
Ahead of those remarks, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers shared his feelings about his fellow governor from neighboring Minnesota.
One of the biggest projects the two have worked on together is the Blatnik Bridge that connects Superior, Wisconsin to Duluth, Minnesota.
More than $1 billion in federal funding for the project came from the Biden administration, so Walz being picked as Vice President Harris’ running mate is a full-circle moment for the two governors on the national stage.
“I want to say a huge thank you and thank this state for giving one of the kindest, one of the most visionary, and one of my dearest friends — Gov. Tony Evers,” Gov. Walz told the crowd gathered inside Fiserv Forum for a rally Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Gov. Evers had equally kind words about his counterpart and expressed enthusiasm about Midwest representation on the Democratic ticket.
“People are just getting to know him. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s just a consummate, Midwestern guy,” Gov. Evers told reporters at the Wisconsin delegation’s breakfast on Wednesday.
The governor went on to explain why he believes Walz is ready to lead.
“He’s really smart, he’s really competent, and he’s going to be a really good partner. I love it. This is a great combination. We’re gonna win,” Gov. Evers added.
Despite some stumbles during Tuesday night’s roll call at the DNC, Gov. Evers also made light of the moment and told reporters it was a “mistake” and that “life goes on.”
