GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers are getting ready for a joint practice and preseason game against the Broncos in Denver.

Second-year quarterback Sean Clifford will be in the spotlight. The backup to Jordan Love will play a lot, no matter who starts.

“When I’m in the game, make as many plays as possible and have a ton of fun,” said Clifford. “Play the game that I love. However much I play, I’d love to play the whole game. I’ll put my best foot forward.”

You won’t catch Clifford criticizing his teammate and competitor Michael Pratt. In fact, just the opposite.

“I’m honored to compete with Mike,” said Clifford. “Just because I respect him so much as a quarterback. When you come in and you have an opportunity to get better every single day. You know that if you take a day off, he’s not. It raises the level of the competition in the room. We know what’s at stake, but you can still be friendly and have a good competitive room. We just want to win because that’s what we’re here to do.”

Clifford said the energy surrounding games is different than practice.

“I do think that when the lights come on, it’s a little bit different for me,” said Clifford. “It’s just an excitement level. I do like to kind of think of myself as a gamer. Rally around the team and the energy, which is always super high on game days.”

Clifford said he’s also a firm believer in shaking off mistakes.

“The only thing that matters is the present,” said Clifford. “Being able to wash whatever’s happened in the past is an elite trait that I think Jordan (Love) has. I’ve continued to learn that. I think that’s one of my best attributes. The last play could be my worst play of my career, and I’m going to go out and still sling it the next one.”

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that he’s giving offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich the opportunity to call plays in the preseason.
