GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers head to Denver later this week for a joint practice Friday and a preseason game against the Broncos Sunday night.

For receiver Bo Melton, it’s a chance to shake off a forgettable performance in Cleveland as he tries to lock down a roster spot at a very crowded position.

Melton said one of the strengths of the Packers’ young receiving corps is that they each have different skill sets.

“We have a bunch of dawgs,” said Melton. “You got different people to do different things, different body types, different attributes. That’s going to bring the best out of everybody. I feel like our room is not like every other room. We have a lot of guys that can make plays and that’s a good thing to have.”

Melton said chemistry with quarterback Jordan Love is an important ingredient for any receiver.

“You always want chemistry with your quarterback. I feel like we have done a great job as a unit. We still have great connections,” he said.

Unless they were students of the practice squad, many Packers fans hadn’t heard of Melton until he had six catches for 105 yards and a touchdown on New Year’s Eve at Minnesota. It was his first NFL start.

“Late last season, it was great,” said Melton. “But I always wanna start fresh, have a new mindset. Come into the offseason with goals for the season. This camp, it’s been good, been battling, making a lot of plays for the team. Everybody’s making plays, everybody’s showing out. Last season was good, but I want to keep improving. We can’t put no limit to our success. I think that we’re trending in the right direction.”

Melton’s younger brother Max, a defensive back, also went to Rutgers and was a second round draft pick by Arizona. He’s opened eyes with a strong camp for the Arizona Cardinals, but there’s not much time for brotherly love right now.

“We’re too busy right now,” said Melton. “I have talked to him. He’s doing really well. Always just being in his ear, just like when he was in college. But dog days at camp for him, too.”

You can rest assured the Melton family hopes Oct. 13 is a special day. That’s when the Cardinals visit Lambeau Field to play the Packers.
