GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers’ first preseason game is Saturday afternoon at Cleveland. Adam Stenavich, the Packers offensive coordinator, thinks the Green Bay offense will be potent this season.
The free agent acquisition of Josh Jacobs to be the Packers’ featured running back has made a big impression on Stenavich.
“He’s got a great attitude,” said Stenavich. “You can tell he’s not a super loud, vocal guy. He’s just a really focused kid. Really intent. Really dialed in. He’s got a good intensity about him that I really like, and you can tell he’s hungry. He likes it here. He’s hungry, and he wants to win. He does have the ability to catch the ball really well. Right now, we’re just kind of seeing what route concepts we think he’d be best at. As we move forward, once we get things going, how can we use him the best way?”
Stenavich likes all the Packers’ young receivers, but makes special note of the development of Romeo Doubs.
“It has been really cool watching Romeo over these last three seasons,” said Stenavich. “Just the steps he makes every single year. His route running right now has been pretty tremendous. He’s always had super strong hands, but the routes that he’s putting on tape right now are pretty impressive.”
For now, first round draft pick Jordan Morgan is practicing at right guard. He played tackle in college at Arizona.
“With young guys, you kind of want to start them at a spot and you don’t want to move them around as much,” said Stenavich. “Just so they can hone in on the techniques and the assignments and all that stuff. When you look at the big picture, kind of where you think he would compete best this year for a starting role, we looked, and we thought the right guard position was the spot. So, I think as of now, we’ll kind of focus there. As he grasps and gets better there, we can move him around if we want to. If he does a great job there, and he stays there, we’re good to go.”
Stenavich refers to receiver Jayden Reed as a “weapon” for the Packers’ offense.
