Packers decision-makers were at the NFL Owners Meetings early this week in Orlando, Florida.

Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur made his first public comments since the team signed Josh Jacobs and released longtime running back Aaron Jones. LaFleur loves Jacobs, but Jones was one of his favorites.

"Not just on the field, but what he did off the field. That's real tough," said LaFleur.

LaFleur said the departure of Jones means that quarterback Jordan Love will have more leadership responsibilities. "I've talked to him about it," says LaFleur.

After May 3, the Packers can sign Love to a contract extension. There are some estimates the average annual salary could top $50 million.

"We've had four years to watch how he works. That provides some comfort," said Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

News from the owners meetings included the NFL planning to have two games on Christmas Day, a Wednesday this year. The owners also approved a new XFL-inspired kickoff designed to encourage returns while lowering concussion rates.

The NFL is close to announcing an opponent for the Eagles in Brazil opening week. The Packers and Browns are considered the top two options.
