MILWAUKEE — The Brewers open their regular season Thursday afternoon in New York against the Mets.

Here are three things things to watch in the 2024 season:

Murphy takes the helm

The most obvious change with the Brewers this year is that they have a new manager. Pat Murphy has been promoted from bench coach, replacing Craig Counsell, who left for the Cubs. Counsell won more games than any other manager in Brewers history over his nine-year tenure.

Star watch

Phenom rookie Jackson Chourio will be a player to watch. The 20-year-old outfielder is the youngest Brewer to make the Opening Day roster since Robin Yount in 1974.

The Brewers are so convinced that Chourio will be a star that they gave him an $82 million contract before he played an inning in the major leagues.

Rotation changes

The Brewers' starting pitching will be under scrutiny this season. Corbin Burnes was traded to Baltimore and Brandon Woodruff is out with a shoulder injury. Freddy Peralta becomes the number one starter and will get the ball on Opening Day.

The Brewers’ bullpen will have to navigate the absence of closer Devin Williams for at least the first couple of months of the season because of a back injury.
