MILWAUKEE — Thousands of volunteers will be needed this summer to help pull off the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

As organizers on the nonpartisan, nonprofit MKE 2024 Host Committee formally launched their volunteer recruitment efforts Friday, they called the opportunity a once-in-a-generation chance to witness the city on a global stage.

What You Need To Know

  • The nonpartisan MKE 2024 Host Committee is looking for thousands of volunteers to help showcase Milwaukee to the estimated 50,000 visitors during the Republican National Convention in July

  • Those age 16 and older can volunteer on their own, and anybody younger can participate with a parent or guardian

  • Volunteers can sign-up to work one shift or several

Leaders are now asking for people of all ages and backgrounds to help tell the story of Milwaukee, and the Badger State as a whole.

“How people are greeted and treated when visiting a city is so important to the impression they leave with, so we are looking for you — everybody out there in the community, to help us do that, help give people a warm Wisconsin welcome,” Alison Prange, COO, MKE 2024 Host Committee, explained.

The host committee said it needs thousands of volunteers, not just from the city, but around the region before and after the July convention.

“We’re going to need volunteers, and when I say volunteers, I mean a lot of them,” MKE 2024 Host Committee CEO Ted Kellner said. “Thousands — [8,000] to 10,000 is probably going to be the ultimate number.”

Those age 16 and older can volunteer on their own, and anybody younger can participate with a parent or guardian. Volunteers can sign-up to work one shift or several.

For Mayor Cavalier Johnson, it’s less about politics and more about promoting the state’s largest city.

“This is not about politics. I think my presence here speaks that to you,” Johnson told reporters. “This is not about politics at all. What it is about is it’s about Milwaukee having the greatest social as well as economic impact that we can have on this city.”

The specific roles and descriptions are still being finalized; however, some will include greeting people at the airport and helping visitors find their way around Milwaukee.

“Our guests might not remember every detail about their stay in Milwaukee, but they’re going to remember how we make them feel, and volunteers will play a critical component of how we roll out the red carpet for each and every one of the 50,000 guests that are coming to visit,” VISIT Milwaukee CEO Peggy Williams-Smith added.
