MILWAUKEE — With five months to go until the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, the Committee on Arrangements (COA) is looking for help from college students who want to intern and gain resume-building experience.

The summer internship program is an opportunity to kickstart a career in the political arena, according to the online application, as the political party gets ready to bring its presidential nominating convention to a literal arena, Fiserv Forum, this July.

Qualifications for interested applicants

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate collegiate program, with preference given to juniors and seniors

  • Available to work full-time in-person in Milwaukee starting on June 6 and ending July 21

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Open to all majors

“It’s the political Super Bowl,” Kush Desai, deputy communications director for the 2024 RNC, explained. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to really be on the ground floor of this event that’s going to be on the national, and even global, stage.”

The 45-day program begins in the first week of June and runs through the convention in July.

It will be an unpaid, full-time internship position; however, dorm-style housing will be provided. All majors are encouraged to apply, with opportunities ranging from security and transportation to communications and media operations, as well as administration and legal.

“It’s a really great launch pad for young people to kind of get those critical experiences in early, to be able to do some of the tasks that you need to do to work in politics, whether it be on the campaign side, the official side to be on Capitol Hill in D.C., or even outside of politics in the private sector just putting together an event of this magnitude and this much importance,” Desai said.

The program is meant to give participants a front-row seat to the process through hands-on involvement instead of just watching it.

“They are really going to be playing the role of junior staffers, doing the day-to-day tasks that everyday staff around the convention team would do,” Desai added.

Those interested must be enrolled in a college undergrad program with preference given to juniors and seniors who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Applications for the program are due by March 31. You can apply here.
