GREEN BAY, Wis. — Crime across Green Bay was reduced by 13% from 2022 to 2023, according to new numbers released by the Green Bay Police Department (GBPD).

The department said it had 6,142 case reports in 2023 compared to 7,056 in 2022. It’s the lowest number in the last five years, according to the department.

“I’m pleased to see that our crime reduction efforts are paying off. The decrease in crime in 2023 is the result of our community’s investment in public safety and a tremendous amount of hard work by our officers, detectives, supervisors, and professional staff,” said GBPD Chief Chris Davis in a press release.

Among the crime reports that saw a decrease was “shots fired” incidents.

There were 37 incidents of “shots fired” in 2023, which is down from the five-year average of 54.4, and 28 fewer incidents than in 2022.

There was also a 23% decline in theft or larceny cases in 2023.

Despite the decrease, car thefts were up substantially, with 285 cases in 2023 and 180 in 2022 — a 58% increase.

Overdoses in the area were also up by 39% in 2023 compared to the previous year. There were 172 fatal and non-fatal overdoses in 2023, while there were 124 in 2022.

Specifically, non-fatal overdoses saw a significant jump, going from 140 in 2023 to 93 in 2022. Fatal overdoses remained relatively steady.
