CRANDON, Wis. — Crandon area experienced a 2.5 magnitude earthquake Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake was about 4 kilometers northeast of Mole Lake in northern Wisconsin.

At 12:05 p.m. on Sunday, around 68 people reported to USGS that they felt the quake. Most put the earthquake on the lower end of a 10-point scale.

The Forest County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook also shared that they had received multiple calls about “abnormally excessive shaking/vibration coming from the ground.”

USGS said people usually feel earthquakes larger than magnitude 3.0, but a few may feel some less than that.

The largest earthquake in Wisconsin was in 1947, in the southeastern part of the state, just south of Milwaukee, according to USGS.
