MILWAUKEE — Those attending events at Marquette’s Al McGuire Center and Valley Fields will now only be able to bring in a clear bag.
The policy change will go into effect starting Nov. 1, 2023, Marquette Athletics announced Monday.
Officials said the policy is in line with other event venues in the city and at other BIG EAST institutions. It’s meant to keep people safe and “expedite entry into competitions.”
Marquette said moving forward, these guidelines will be used at volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s lacrosse events.
“We are committed to providing a high-quality environment for all individuals attending our events and the safety of everyone in attendance, including our student-athletes, is our primary focus,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Bill Scholl said in a press release. “We appreciate in advance the cooperation of our patrons and will make every effort to make the implementation of the policy as smooth as possible.”
Fans will be able to purchase a clear, clutch bag at the Marquette Athletics ticket office, or they can get a clear gallon bag for free.
Marquette officials said they encourage fans attending events on campus to leave bags at home; however small items, such as a clutch purse, tote or belt bag may be allowed.
At Marquette Athletics events at the Al McGuire Center or Valley Fields, only approved bags and items will be allowed. Fans can also opt to carry permissible items, such as a cellphone or binoculars, without a bag.
Marquette Athletic officials warned that any prohibited items will not be held by them during the event.
