MADISON, Wis. — The final American Girl Benefit Sale, hosted by the Madison Children’s Museum, will be held this weekend at the Alliant Energy Center.
It’s an event that draws a lot of families to Madison every year.
For more than 35 years, American Girl has donated it’s overstocked and returned items to the museum to be resold at discounted prices.
All the money raised goes to the museum and Dane County charities focused on helping kids.
“They have really helped us become the nationally-recognized museum that we are,” said Deb Gilpin, Madison Children’s Museum President & CEO. “We like to call it the museum that dolls built.”
Gilpin said the museum has decided to move in a different direction after learning that available American Girl inventory would be declining in the coming years. She also said it takes a lot of work and manpower to organize this kind of sale every year.
“It really looked like it was more important for us to invest in this amazing set of new things that we have at the museum in the coming years, and to focus our energy there, but do this last one on a high point,” Gilpin said.
American Girl is headquartered in Middleton, Wis.
For the past two years, the benefit sale has been done exclusively online.
This year, for the first time, it will be held at Alliant Energy Center. Tickets can be purchased in person on Saturday starting at 8 a.m.
