MILWAUKEE — Fresh on the heels of last year’s Miss Wisconsin becoming Miss America when Grace Stanke won it all back in December, 25 young women will look to become the new Miss Wisconsin this weekend in Oshkosh.
“The excitement is in the air for sure,” said Miss Wisconsin spokesperson Caitlin Morrall Machol. “[Grace’s Miss America win] has definitely helped recruit more young women who want to be involved in the Miss America organization, and Grace is just such a phenomenal woman.”
While Saturday evening’s winner will likely get the most headlines and scholarship money, others in the competition won’t leave empty-handed.
“We already had preliminary competitions Wednesday and Thursday,” Morrall Machol said. “We have other scholarships, too. Miss Great Lakes just won a hometown pride award last night that was a $1,000 scholarship available for her. We have some health sciences awards, some STEM awards, there will be some other awards given out as well [Saturday] night. The girls have an opportunity to earn a lot of scholarships throughout their time here. Miss America is the leading scholarship provider for women in the world.”
Miss Wisconsin runs through Saturday in Oshkosh.
