MILWAUKEE — Cirque du Soleil is coming to town with its original holiday show.
“‘Twas the Night Before…” — Cirque du Soleil’s holiday-themed show — is making a merry-Milwaukee stop from Nov. 24 to 26. The show draws plot points from “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clarke Moore. In the family-friendly show, “a jaded young girl rediscovers the magic of Christmas.”
The girl, Isabella, and her dad read Christmas stories together. But this year, she feels as though she's too old to enjoy the family tradition. However, the mahic of the poem comes to life before her eyes before a snowstorm separates her and her dad. She's sent on a "fantastical journey" through a winter wonderland, where she discovers whimsical characters, acrobats, children and reindeer. The characters work together to reunite Isabella and her dad through the spirit of Christmas.
The show is “inspired by the joy of giving and the wonder of the holiday season.” Signature Cirque du Soleil elements — acrobatics, storytelling, elaborate costumes — collide with Christmas in “‘Twas the Night Before…”
The show features over a dozen makeup designs. In 2022, this required 25 pots of glitter and 60 cans of colored hairspray to be used throughout the show's run. Not to mention, there are 2,000 sequins per costume.
The show — made up of a 26-person cast — includes a festive soundtrack with holiday classics with a Cirque du Soleil twist.
“‘Twas the Night Before…” premiered in Chicago in 2019. It’s the company’s first holiday-themed show. There will be eight performances during the show’s Milwaukee run at Miller High Life Theatre. Click here for ticket information.
