WISCONSIN — Tributes and reactions are pouring in across the state following the deaths of two Wisconsin police officers who were killed in a shooting during a traffic stop on Saturday.
Officers Hunter Scheel and Emily Breidenbach in Barron County lost their lives in the line of duty Saturday afternoon, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
At approximately 3:38 p.m., Breidenbach, from the Chetek Police Department, conducted a traffic stop, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice. During the traffic stop, gunfire was exchanged. Breidenbach and Scheel, the Cameron police officer, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect in the shooting, 50-year-old Glenn Douglas Perry, was taken to a hospital and later died, the justice department said.
Police departments and state leaders are sharing their respect for the fallen officers.
According to the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial, the last time two officers were killed in the same incident was on July 22, 2002.
