ELLSWORTH, Wis. — It's an event where cheese lovers unite every year — the Ellsworth Cheese Curd Festival.
And this year, USA Today's Reader's Choice named it among the top 10 "Best Specialty Food Festival" in the nation.
“As the Cheese Curd Capital of Wisconsin, Ellsworth has so much to offer those who are from or traveling to the area,” said Paul Bauer, CEO and general manager of Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery. “Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery is proud of the Cheese Curd Festival’s recognition by USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Contest and looks forward to returning as the main sponsor of this year’s Cheese Curd Festival.”
Each June, Wisconsites descend upon the festival to eat the thousands of pounds of cheese curds, which are made by Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery, the event's main sponsor.
The free festival offers more than just cheese curds, though. It gives visitors guided tasting experiences, and opportunities to learn from the crafters, cooks and makers of cheese, craft beer, wine, hard ciders, real dairy ice-cream, and authentic Sconnie BBQ.
There's also a variety of regional acts that play music, such as blues, folk and more. This year, the event falls on June 23 and 24.
