WEST ALLIS, Wis. — Southeast Wisconsin saw record breaking rainfall totals on Monday, causing flooding in some communities, especially Milwaukee suburbs.
Restoration companies are hard at working helping those who were affected.
With over two inches of rain in some locations, on top of already existing ice and snow, flooding was inevitable in some homes.
“That’s what we are dealing with now more than anything is sump pumps that just can’t keep up,” Rick Edgett said.
Edgett is an operation manager at Paul Davis Restoration, based in Waukesha, Wis. He said when something like this happens, the best thing to do is ask for help right away.
“If you don’t know what you are dealing with, it's best to reach out to a restoration company even for an inspection. It doesn’t cost a lot, or if anything most times," he said. "[We are] able to run our meters around and our thermal imaging cameras, and we are able to ... give you advice..."
Flooding isn’t typically common in the month of February in Wisconsin. However, Edgett said they have gotten over 100 calls from people who had flooding in their homes from the rainfall that came in Sunday night and into Monday morning.
“We’ve been able to service about 47 of them to this point. We are eagerly trying to help out as many people as we can. Even though we have a large staff and large facility, we can only service so many people,” Edgett said.
Edgett said having a company in mind before something like this happens is important, so people are able to can call right away in the case of an emergency, Normally, the sooner someone calls with an emergency, the closer that puts them to the top of the list.
Storing items, especially in basements, in plastic bins can help protect them, he said. He also noted using water sensor devices in your basement will help in a situation like this to alert you right away.
