GREEN BAY, Wis. — Terrell Chambers said he has lived in Wisconsin long enough to know the state gets different kinds of snow.

He was at work cleaning up a sloppy snow, rain and sleet mess on Monday.

“It’s a different kind of snow,” the Green Bay resident said. “You’ve got the light snow; then you’ve got the heavy, wet snow. Then there’s a mixture. It’s a like a hybrid going on out here or something.”

What You Need To Know

  • Wisconsin saw heavy rain in the south, snow in the north, and everything in between

  • In the Green Bay Area, a few miles was the difference between snow and slush

  • High tempertures will range from the 20 to the 40s across the state this week

Chambers was cleaning it up before it became an even bigger mess.

“I’m really pushing it like a plow. Pushing it, getting it out of the way, getting it into a pile and then moving instead of shoveling,” he said. “I’m trying not to use my muscles. I’m trying to use my brain and work smarter.”

Snowblowers and shovels were a common sight in the Green Bay area. So were umbrellas.

Kevin Smith was clearing snow at his furniture building business, The Woodsmith, off Dousman Ave.

“I have some customers on their way in today and I want them to be able to walk into my shop without slipping and sliding,” he said. “I think it’s just the courteous thing to do.”

After a few days of springlike weather this month, he was taking the return of snow in stride.

“It’s heavy, wet now but we’ll deal with it. I’m actually hoping to do a little skiing,” Smith said. “It cuts both ways. Snow is work, but if you like to be outdoors it can also be fun.”

Chambers was taking care of that work now rather than later.

“You have to be on it,” he said. “Or if you don’t have a snow blower, you’re going to have a fight on your hands.”
