MILWAUKEE — A homicide suspect was killed overnight after a shootout with Milwaukee Police, according to a Milwaukee Police Department press release.

It happened at approximately 10:50 p.m. on the 2200 block of W. National Avenue when officers attempted to carry out a traffic stop.

When the driver refused to stop, a vehicle pursuit of the suspect ensued. The pursuit ended at the 100 block of Juneau Avenue when the suspect exited the disabled vehicle and fired shots at officers.

Several officers discharged their firearms, striking the 47-year-old male suspect. A 22-year-old female bystander from Hudson, Wisconsin, was also struck and transported to a local hospital for non-fatal injuries.

The identity of the man has not been released.

In the press release, MPD said it is unknown whose gunfire struck the woman, and that she was not directly involved in the incident. No other civilians or officers were struck.

Eight officers were involved in the incident and are now on paid administrative leave as is routine with an officer-involved critical incident, according to MPD.
