The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 remained steady Thursday, up by just one from the previous day, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

There are 137 people hospitalized with the virus, with 17 in critical care and five on ventilators. The state reported 249 new cases Thursday, with two new deaths.

The deaths occurred in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties and were both people 80 years old or older. One was a man and the other a woman.

Since the pandemic began in Maine, there have been 267,182 cases of coronavirus, with 192,533 confirmed and 74,649 listed as probable. There have been 2,408 deaths and 5,085 hospitalizations.
