CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. — A Chippewa County judge's decision to unseal the criminal complaint in the 14-year-old suspected of killing Lily Peters sheds new light on what happened to her on the evening of her death.
According to the criminal complaint, the suspect, whose initials are C.P.-B., is charged with first degree intentional homicide, first degree sexual assault and first degree assault of a child under 13 resulting great bodily harm.
The document details an interview with the 14-year-old suspect and a detective on April 26, two days after Peters went missing after leaving her aunt's home.
Investigators said the suspect admitted his intention to rape and kill Peters the night of April 24.
According to the complaint, the suspect told the detective that after strangling and assaulting her, he got scared, went home, showered and put his clothes in the laundry. The next day, when he heard that people were looking for Peters' body, he went back to the woods, moved her body a few feet and covered her with leaves.
Autopsy results show 10-year-old Lily Peters died from blunt force trauma and strangulation.
The Chippewa Falls Police Department said Peters’ father called 911 around 9 p.m. Sunday after she did not return from a visit to her aunt’s home.
Law enforcement in Chippewa Falls said Peters’ body was found in a wooded area Monday morning after she was reported missing Sunday night.
C.P.-B. was arrested on that Tuesday and is currently being held at Eau Claire Juvenile Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.
