MADISON, Wis. — One Dane County father is encouraging even more families to vaccinate for COVID-19, with a new parody on the popular Pharrell song, "Happy."

UW Madison biochemist Dr. Adrian Grimes, known on YouTube for his famous vaccine parody of "Bohemian Rhapsody," now potentially has a new hit on his hands.

Dr. Grimes’ "Coronavirus Rhapsody’" now has racked up nearly 6 million YouTube views since it debuted in March of 2020. He decided after watching his young daughters recently receive their COVID-19 shots, that he wanted to make a new music video.

"This one came to me and I think this is the first one that's that's really a sort of positive message," he said.

This time, he re-wrote Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ lyrics and invited his daughters and their friends over to perform as the back-up singers.

"Get the kids together get them to have some fun," he said about having the girl gaggle safely congregate and play.

"It was all about encouragement, doing the right thing, and helping our community to get back," Dr. Grimes added about the overall message of the pro-vaccine piece.

He created the masterpiece with his basement green screen, a few glasses of wine and some editing software.
