JANESVILLE, Wis (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- Doctors in Rock County showing off a new tool they have to fight hypothermia. The Zoll Thermoguard gives the Mercyhealth ER team a new portable and lifesaving option when it comes to warming up a person’s core body temp.
"It’s pretty high tech, it’s a long catheter that goes into the vein similar to an IV, but certainly bigger and uses warm fluids that warm up the blood, so it will warm up your core temp first and up from there," Associate EMS Director Chris Wistrom said.
Mercyhealth says this is the first winter they will use the device and so far it has helped save the lives of three patients.
