MADISON, Wis (SPECTRUM NEWS) -- Madison-based Exact Sciences lending support to Wisconsin during the COVID-19 outbreak, thanks to a new public-private partnership.

The company traditionally focuses on colorectal cancer screening tests, but a team of about 50 lab scientists now working around the clock, volunteering their time to help the state with Coronavirus testing.

"This is a Herculean test, so people are working 3 shifts, overnight on the weekends," Exact Sciences CEO Kevin Conroy said. He believes newly formed effort will help make a difference.

"Yeah, it’s amazing the work that Promega is doing, EPIC is doing and Secretary Palm," Conroy said.

"It is just amazing how people had come together rapidly, and formed teams, what a month ago seemed impossible, we’re proud to play a role in that," he added.

Exact Sciences says they began testing for COVID-19 on Monday, with the hope of testing 5,000-10,000 kits per day in the coming weeks.
