MADISON, Wis. (SPECTRUM NEWS) — Families looking for activities and educational material for kids now at home because of the coronavirus outbreak can get them with an agricultural emphasis.

Wisconsin's 'Ag in the Classroom' has been making more of its materials usually intended for classroom settings available for people at home.

“So it's been kind of a good resources that we can share with teachers, with students and with families who are trying to get through learning how to home school and learning how to help their children,” said Darlene Arneson, state coordinator of Ag in the Classroom.

Arneson said a lot of the materials were already available, but they've been posting new ones nearly every day on their Facebook Page. Arneson said she's been trying to make sure activities can be done with household items, rather than materials someone wold have to go out and get.

“We're trying to figure out what do they have in their cupboards, what do they have maybe in that craft room or that desk drawer and so on that they're able to have,” Arneson said.

Ag in the Classroom has materials for students pre-K through high school. Arneson said the best places to start are:

“Really our audience is anyone who wants to learn about where their food comes from and the opportunities in agriculture,” Arneson said.

Ag in the Classroom has extended deadlines for things like essay and coloring contests too. Those can be found on its website.

Other organizations like Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin or the Wisconsin Maple Syrup Producers Association have online educational materials as well.
