MILWAUKEE (SPECTRUM NEWS)- During these challenging economic times, essential workers are more important than ever. That includes bus drivers and mechanics like those at the Milwaukee County Transit System. Now, the state’s largest public transit agency is looking to add to their staff.

Each month MCTS looks to hire about 10-15 new bus operators. In addition, they currently have several mechanic positions available.

MCTS provides training for both operators and mechanics.

HR employment supervisor Tiffany Moore says with more than 370 busses on the road in the county, it is always important to have staff dedicated to maintaining and driving the fleet.

“Our workers are essential functions to our operations and we continue to have ongoing needs for bus operators and mechanics and caretakers to keep our busses sanitized and operating," says Moore

For employees, like mechanic Adrian Ramirez, it is an opportunity not only to earn a living, but also to give back to the community. Ramirez, who specializes in fixing breaks and steering, says it is a good feeling.

“I, myself, relied on the city bus growing up. That got me from A to B, to school, new job; to give the opportunity to someone else is very prideful," says Ramirez
