PLYMOUTH, Wis. — A Wisconsin new years tradition won't happen in person this year, but it still will happen virtually.

Sartori Cheese cancelled the in-person event for its annual cheese drop, But they still dropped the block of BellaVitano cheese.

The recorded cheese drop countdown will go on the companies Facebook page at midnight

“We just really felt it was important to keep that tradition,” said Jim Sartori, Sartori Cheese's Chairman. “People have a lot of fun with it.”

So you can watch the new year come in the way only Wisconsin knows how.

“We just think it's such a neat thing and we'd hate to see it stop,” Sartori said. “For a while we thought maybe we could pull it off with COVID, I mean it's an outdoor event, but we just thought it made a lot more sense to do it a little bit ahead and do it safely and continue that great tradition.”

Sartori has been doing the cheese drop for 14 years. Normally thousands of people gather in Plymouth to watch.
