LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Volunteers are on standby to help keep their church dry during heavy rains through the weekend.
Interim Pastor Tom Dillard said he isn’t going anywhere for a while. He’s spending the weekend at Polar Level Baptist Church. Rainwater started seeping into the building Friday, April 4.
“This is just over and above anything we’ve ever had,” Dillard said. “The gutters could not hold.”
Water is coming through the doors and up through the floors.
“Had an assembly line of shop vacs going out of the building, where you just kind of set it down and it sucks up and it fills thirty seconds,” church member Jessie Lake said.
Church members will be on call throughout the weekend in case they are needed on short notice.
“It’ll be a phone tree operation, where either call a friend or bring a friend,” Lake said.
With heavier rains expected Saturday, their problem likely isn’t subsiding.
“Even though we had dammed up the doors to where they couldn’t let much water in, it still came in through some of the building areas and knew we needed some help and graciously we had about ten volunteers,” Dillard said.
As long as it’s raining, Pastor Dillard said he will be right here.
“I slept on the floor in the sanctuary on a sleeping bag and quilt from home,” Dillard said.
